Recently, GM started a youtube marketing campaign. This was not for a new car launch but is asking for money. Money that comes not directly from the consumer but instead from the government. This is the first time a major automaker has appealed via the internet for the government to give it money. The youtube campaign works with GM’s blog. Note that comments are disabled on GM’s youtube posts.
Does this make sense? Is this the right medium to use? Is the message the right message to use? Do post your suggestions and questions here.

Innovative. I can just see the scene at GM headquarters.
CEO: “Hey, let’s start a publicity campaign so that the new leftish government will have to give us lots of money”.
CFO: “Ads cost money. We don’t have any”.
CIO (Chief Information Officer): ” Hey, we just shoot a video of a cuddly guy and have him and all the COs explain how the continuation of a company selling obsolete products led by grossly overpaid (and overweight) losers is vital to the future of the U.S. of A. and put it on You Tube for free”.
CEO: “Is this like inner tubes? Do we still make wheels with inner tubes”?
CIO: ” Well, if we do we are the last manufacturers in the world, and we deserve to be bailed out by the government” .
It is a kind of drawn out ransom note. Give us money or just see what’ll happen!
Hmmm, empty shelves …..I guess they’re already prepared.
